Care For
The Everyday.

Beautiful bedding is meant to be lived in. With the right washing, drying, storage, and everyday habits, your VelvetNest pieces can remain comfortable, fresh, and beautiful for longer.

01

A simple rule: always check the care label attached to your specific product before laundering. Different fibers, constructions, fillings, colors, and finishes can require different treatment.

Good care is part of good design.

Bedding sits against your skin for hours at a time, which is why the way you care for it matters. Washing too aggressively, using excessive heat, or storing textiles while they are damp can affect their texture, appearance, and long-term performance.

Our collections include soft long-staple cotton, brushed cotton, TENCEL™-type cellulosic fibers, duvet covers, sheets, pillowcases, and filled bedding. Each material has its own characteristics, but the basic principles remain simple: gentle washing, controlled heat, thorough drying, and thoughtful storage.

A little attention between uses can also make a difference. Allowing bedding to air, avoiding unnecessary friction, and rotating pieces regularly can help maintain a cleaner and more comfortable sleeping environment.

The Five-Step
Bedding Routine

Use this as a general starting point for everyday bedding maintenance. Always prioritize the specific care instructions supplied with your individual product.

STEP 01

Check

Separate colors and review the product care label before washing.

STEP 02

Wash

Use an appropriate cycle and avoid overcrowding the washing machine.

STEP 03

Dry

Dry according to the care label and avoid unnecessarily high heat.

STEP 04

Air

Make sure textiles are completely dry before folding or storing.

STEP 05

Store

Keep clean bedding in a cool, dry, well-ventilated environment.

01 · Before Washing

Prepare the fabric, not just the machine.

Close duvet-cover closures and remove removable inserts before washing. Separate lighter and darker colors and avoid washing bedding together with items that have rough hardware, zippers, hooks, or other surfaces that could create unnecessary friction.

Avoid filling the washing machine beyond its recommended capacity. Bedding needs enough room to move freely through the wash and rinse cycles. Overloading can prevent proper cleaning and may leave detergent or moisture trapped within larger pieces.

For larger bedding items, make sure the machine is appropriately sized. If an item cannot move comfortably inside the drum, consider a larger household or professional laundry machine.

Know Your Material

Different fibers respond differently to moisture, heat, friction, and detergents. These general notes can help you understand the character of some VelvetNest bedding materials.

Soft Cellulosic Fiber

TENCEL™ / Lyocell

Smooth, fluid, and naturally soft-feeling fibers benefit from gentle handling and moderate temperatures.

  • Use the care label as the primary guide.
  • Prefer gentle washing when recommended.
  • Avoid excessive heat during drying.
  • Reduce unnecessary friction.
Natural Fiber

Long-Staple Cotton

Long-staple cotton is valued for its soft hand feel and durability. Consistent, moderate care helps preserve its texture.

  • Wash according to the product label.
  • Do not use unnecessarily harsh cycles.
  • Avoid excessive drying temperatures.
  • Allow the fabric to dry thoroughly.
Filled Bedding

Goose Down

Filled duvet products require special attention to drying. Moisture must be fully removed before storage or extended use.

  • Follow the product-specific care label.
  • Use an appropriately sized machine.
  • Dry thoroughly and evenly.
  • Never store down bedding while damp.

Washing Without Overworking the Fabric

Bedding does not need aggressive treatment to become clean. In many cases, a suitable detergent, correct water temperature, appropriate cycle, and enough space inside the washing machine are more important than choosing the strongest available program.

Excessive detergent can leave residue, while overly hot water and repeated high-heat drying may contribute to unnecessary fiber stress or dimensional changes.

When in doubt, choose the gentler option that is consistent with the product's care label.

Detergent Use an appropriate amount of detergent rather than assuming more product means better cleaning.
Temperature Follow the care label. Avoid unnecessarily high temperatures when they are not required.
Machine Load Give sheets and larger bedding enough room to move through the wash.
Colors Wash compatible colors together and separate pieces that may transfer color.
Rinse Make sure detergent is properly rinsed from the textile before drying.
Recommended Habits

Do

  • Read the care label before washing.
  • Separate colors when appropriate.
  • Give bedding enough space inside the washer.
  • Use a suitable amount of detergent.
  • Dry bedding completely before storage.
  • Store clean textiles in a dry, ventilated place.
  • Rotate bedding sets regularly when possible.
Things To Avoid

Don't

  • Do not ignore the product-specific care label.
  • Do not overload the washing machine.
  • Do not use excessive heat without checking the label.
  • Do not store textiles while damp.
  • Do not aggressively scrub delicate fabrics.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals unless specifically appropriate.
  • Do not leave bedding compressed while damp.

When a Small Spill Happens

Treat stains as soon as reasonably possible. The longer a substance remains in the fibers, the more difficult it can become to remove.

  1. Gently remove excess liquid or material without spreading the stain.
  2. Check the care instructions for the specific textile.
  3. Test any treatment method on an inconspicuous area when appropriate.
  4. Avoid aggressive rubbing that may damage the surface or alter the color.
  5. Wash according to the recommended instructions after treatment.

For difficult or valuable filled bedding, professional cleaning may be a safer option than experimenting with strong household chemicals.

Storage, Between Seasons

Proper storage is especially important for winter duvets, spare sheet sets, and bedding that may remain unused for several weeks or months.

01

Wash First

Store bedding only after it has been cleaned and completely dried.

02

Fold Gently

Fold without forcing heavy creases or compressing delicate materials unnecessarily.

03

Keep Dry

Choose a clean, cool, dry, and reasonably ventilated storage area.

04

Allow Air

Avoid sealing textiles away while there is any remaining moisture.

Treat your bedding well, and let it stay beautiful.
